Priest who testified in the nun rape case found dead.
The shocking rape nun rape case saw another twist as the senior priest Father Kuriakose Kattuthara was found dead. This event is important as Father Kuriakose Kattuthara had testified against the accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal.
What came to be known as the nun rape case was filed against the Bishop Franco Mulakkal a nun who claims that she was sexually assaulted him on numerous occasions over a period of three long years.
Father Kuriakose Kattuthara’s body was found in a room at the St. Mary’s Church in the town of Dasuya. His family was informed via a call on Monday morning the Church authorities. The cause of death is said to be a heart attack. The family members of the departed priest, however, suspect foul play and his brother has publicly spoken about the possibility of the involvement of Bishop Franco Mulakkal and is also planning on approaching the Kerala High Court to cancel the bail granted to the Bishop.
Father Kuriakose’s involvement in the nun rape case
The priest Father Kuriakose Kattuthara had claimed that the Church authorities were trying not only to hush up the nun rape case but also several sexual assault complaints made against the Bishop Mulakkal. He had also said that many nuns from the Jalandhar diocese had complained against the Bishop but had chosen to observe further silence out of the fear of Mulakkal and the influence he held over the Church.
The nun rape case followed the death of Father Kuriakose Kattuthara after he spoke out in support of the nuns raises questions on the Church which has firmly backed Bishop Franco Mulakkal and has refused to do anything about or support the nuns in any manner.
Amidst the case in progress, an independent MLA from Poonjar, PC George made outrageous statements in support of the Bishop and even went to the extent of calling the nun a ‘prostitute’. It is shameful that when the world is going through me too movement, the nuns are left alone to deal with their predators with no support whatsoever.
